Let it Snow, Let it Snow.....

No, the Ranch doesn't quite look like this but we have had snow in December.  It is cold and windy here at the Ranch but everyday business goes on as usual.

News from Jamaica

Scott, Lori and family have returned from Jamaica bringing exciting news of the progress there.  Some of the landscaping has been completed and the plans for the 10 bedroom Villa have been drawn up.  They spent most of the time deciding exactly where everything will go and make sure that the land will be used to it's greatest potential.  

On a different note:

Lori and Scott have adopted a local school, Shar-Mar, and are working with the Principal to improve the educational opportunity of the young children in the area.  Anyone who wishes to donate children's books please contact Lori@BearRiverRanch.com to discuss how you can help the children in Jamaica.

Wrap up a week of Summer Camp for the Holidays!

Summer Camp provides a lifetime of memories.  For many campers it is the highlight of their year. So why not give your child the gift of "Summer Camp" this holiday season?  With a little creativity, wrapping "Summer Camp" can be lots of fun. 

Here are some creative ideas.

1. Pack it up!  

Fill a suitcase or duffel bag with things needed for camp, include a camp brochure or page from a calendar with the session highlighted. Wrap it with a big bow.

2. Catch the Memories!

Buy an inexpensive digital camera.  Have your child's name engraved on it.  Download pictures from the camp's website and include a shot of a note on which you have written, "You are registered for Camp" and add the date of the session.

3.  Make it Personal!  Choose an item that relates to the the part of camp that your child is the most excited about.  Maybe they like to roast marshmallow (choose a bag of marshmallows), take care of the animals (choose a realistic stuffed animal), make new friends (choose a friendship bracelet kit).  Include a note that says something like "Have a great time at camp!"

Animals like Presents too!

The staff at the Ranch have been busy making toys for the animals.  They love tearing up, chewing on, and playing with any new toys.  We have to make sure that they are appropriate for the animal that they are given to and that they do not contain any chemicals or small parts that would hurt the animals.

Exotic Animal Auction

Lori and her daughter  Mikayla went to the December Exotic Animal Auction to take some of our babies to sell and see what animals were available to  purchase.  They bought a baby African Crested Porcupine, young chinchilla and a Latino Indian Ringneck Parakeet.

Watching the Waistline this   Holiday Season

Most of us love our sweets and at this time of year there are usually more than enough to go around.  If you do not want to end up with several unwanted pounds keep this in mind:  Choose  your favorite sweet for a desert and eat only one serving.  Don't snack between meals and you should be able to weather the Holidays without the extra pudge.  Moderation is the key! 

Some of the animals at the Ranch really love their treats and we have to ration them or that is all they would eat.
